2025 Annual Report In 2025, we said farewell to three departing Board members: Dr. Candace Bradley Dr. Howard Hall Mr. Joshua Malcolm And, we welcomed two new Board members: Gregory S. McCarty, MD, an emergency medicine doctor from Mills River, NC. And, Shannon R. Joseph, an attorney from Raleigh, NC. Highlights from our licensing program The Board's total licensee population rose to 65,005 The Board issued 7,630 licenses: 4,927 - Physicians 1,362 - Residents 1,291 - Physician Assistants 35 - Licensed Perfusionists 15 - Anesthesiology Assistants Highlights from our enforcement program 2025 marks the highest volume of cases opened and processed — ever! 3,938 cases were opened and 3,842 cases were closed Cases opened by primary allegation (Top 3) include: Substandard care – non-prescribing: 1,545 Substandard care – prescribing: 535 Failure to comply with regulation related to the practice of medicine: 317 In 2025, problems with quality of care was the leading cause of adverse Board actions. What else happened? We implemented healthcare workforce reforms established through HB67. These include: Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Internationally-Trained Physician Employee Physician Assistant Team-Based Practice Physician Assistant Licensure Compact plus...We streamlined and simplified our licensing process How? We eliminated personal and professional reference forms from license applications. We reduced the amount of historical information applicants must provide. We consolidated, updated, and clarified documents that were previously submitted separately. We also improved our enforcement program. How? We doubled the size of the department that processes complaints. We began tracking various metrics to identify delays and other issues. Through these efforts, we worked through a large backlog of cases, reducing the amount of time it takes to investigate and resolve complaints. Also...In 2025, NCMB celebrated the five-year anniversary of its podcast, MedBoard Matters. We introduced an improved mobile interface to make NCMB’s website easier to navigate and use on smartphones.
