Serving as President of the North Carolina Medical Board (NCMB) has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career. As I reflect on this past year, I am deeply grateful for the privilege of working alongside a dedicated Board and staff who share an unwavering commitment to public service. Our collective efforts have shaped a year marked by progress, innovation, and meaningful impact.

The work NCMB does is uniquely rewarding, offering meaningful opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of patients, providers, and communities across our state. I have found great satisfaction in collaborating with colleagues whose expertise, compassion, and integrity inspire me. Our Board meetings have been forums for thoughtful discussion, principled decision-making, and genuine camaraderie.

Central to the work is our enduring mission to protect the public. Over the past year, this focus has remained at the heart of every decision and initiative. We have diligently upheld rigorous standards for licensure, ensuring that only qualified and competent individuals are entrusted with the privilege of practicing medicine in North Carolina. We also take seriously our responsibility to investigate concerns about the practice of medicine and professionalism. While most investigations are resolved without public action, each provides an opportunity to review care, identify potential risks, and promote patient safety. Through this work, the Board strives to protect the public while supporting physicians in maintaining the highest standards of care and professionalism. By offering clear guidance, accessible resources, and timely support, the Board has sought to empower medical professionals while maintaining our commitment to public safety.

Among our most significant accomplishments this year has been the bold steps taken to decrease time to licensure. Understanding the challenges faced by applicants and the urgent need for more providers, NCMB has prioritized streamlining our processes without compromising on quality or rigor. Through targeted improvements in application review, enhanced communication, more staff, and the adoption of new technologies, we have succeeded in reducing waiting periods and facilitating smoother entry into practice for qualified professionals. These efforts not only benefit individual applicants but also strengthen the healthcare system as a whole.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the extraordinary dedication of NCMB staff. Their professionalism, diligence, and compassion have been a constant source of strength and inspiration for Board Members. Whether navigating complex regulatory issues, assisting applicants, or responding to the needs of the public, our staff have consistently demonstrated the highest standards of service. I am especially grateful for their adaptability and resilience amid the evolving demands of our work. The collaborative spirit that prevails within this organization is a testament to the exceptional individuals who comprise our team.

As my term as President draws to a close, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve and for all that we have accomplished together. The past year has reaffirmed my belief in the critical importance of NCMB’s mission and the value of dedicated, collaborative leadership. I extend my deepest thanks to my fellow Board members, our licensees and applicants, and, most of all, the remarkable staff who make our shared success possible.

It has been a privilege to contribute to the ongoing work of protecting the public, supporting medical professionals, and advancing healthcare in North Carolina.
