Courses in cultural competence, implicit bias are “practice relevant”

As of December 15, 2021, physicians and PAs who complete CME courses in cultural competence or implicit bias may count these hours of training towards their state-mandated continuing medical education requirement.

Physicians must report 60 hours of Category 1 CME every three years, while PAs must report 50 hours every two years.

Amending CME rules to specify that training on the topics of cultural competence or implicit bias is “practice relevant” is a way to encourage licensees to learn more about how to meet the needs of patients from diverse backgrounds.
