Implementing best practices for mild TBI in NC

The NC State Trauma Advisory Committee (NCSTAC) wants to raise the statewide standard of care for minor traumatic brain injuries (TBI) to current nationwide best practices.

NC STAC has developed educational resources for emergency physicians and primary care physicians to raise awareness that patients with mild TBI can be safely treated at the local level. Treating mild TBI locally reduces patient cost, patient and family burden and lowers system costs compared to transferring patients with mild TBI to a Trauma Center for care, according to NC STAC.

To assist Emergency Department physicians and primary care physicians with correctly identifying and treating mild TBIs that can be handled locally, NC STAC has created the following educational resources:

Educational Package for Primary Care Physicians

Educational Package for ED Physicians

Discharge Instructions for Patients Brochure

Information for Radiologists Brochure
