With the incidence of measles rising globally and in the United States - including in North Carolina - the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) is providing resources to help clinicians in our state recognize, treat and prevent the disease.

While the number of cases in North Carolina is small, with 23 cases reported since December 2025, NC DHHS cautions that community spread of measles is confirmed or suspected in parts of the state. Specifically, community spread is known or suspected in the Charlotte metropolitan area, including Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Union counties, as well as in Buncombe County.
