NCMB staff recognized with national awards

Two NCMB staff received national awards for their contributions to medical regulation at the recent annual meetings of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the professional organization for medical board staff, Administrators in Medicine (AIM).

Interim Chief Legal Officer Brian Blankenship, JD, won the FSMB Award of Merit for his considerable contributions to improving how NCMB responds to allegations of professional sexual misconduct. This work includes establishing regular Board Member and staff trainings, speaking nationally on the topic, and setting up the nation's first medical board Victim Services program, which assists complainants who have experienced sexual assault or other sexual misconduct.

NCMB’s outgoing CEO David Henderson, JD, won the FSMB 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his extraordinary and sustained service and commitment to the field of medical regulation. David is the 4th person from North Carolina to be named the recipient of this award since its founding in 2000. He is only the third non-clinician to receive the award.

AIM, the medical board staff organization, honored Mr. Henderson with its Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his contributions over a 26-year career in medical regulation.
