NC Division of Public Health guidance on Enterovirus D-68
The NC Division of Public Health has published clinical guidance on Enterovirus D-68 (EV-D68) that covers diagnosis and treatment of the illness. As of Sept. 9, 2014, no cases of EV-D68 have been confirmed in NC. It has been identified in relation to recent outbreaks of respiratory illness in the Midwest.
Of note: NCDPH advises that “Contact and Droplet isolation precautions are recommended for patients in whom infection with EV-D68 or another respiratory virus is suspected. Use of antimicrobial soap and water is preferred for hand hygiene, as alcohol-based hand rubs have limited activity against EV-D68 and other enteroviruses…”
