The NC Controlled Substances Reporting System (NC CSRS) is a state-run database of all controlled substances prescriptions dispensed in outpatient pharmacies across North Carolina. NCMB does not have an official role in administration of NC CSRS, but considers the system an essential resource for prescribers. Licensees, especially those who regularly prescribe controlled substances, should register for NC CSRS and use it to monitor patients’ prescription histories. State law will ultimately require prescribers to check NC CSRS before writing prescriptions for opioid pain medications.
