Find free or low-cost health care

The N.C. Institute of Medicine has created a new Web page that will help the poor and uninsured find doctors, dentists, free clinics and other health services in their communities. Practitioners or clinics listed offer free or subsidized care or see patients with Medicaid, the state and federal health insurance program for the poor. Contact information and hours of operation are given for each organization. About 250 organizations are listed.

The site was designed primarily to help the 1.5 million people in North Carolina who have no health insurance. Visitors to the site can search by county to find primary care, specialty care, dentists, free clinics and behavioral health services. Users can search within a 25- or 50-mile radius if no providers are available in their home county.
