Call for applicants: Board seats for physicians, APPs, available for terms beginning Nov. 1.
The Review Panel for the NC Medical Board is seeking physician and advanced practice provider applicants for four clinician seats on the Board for the three-year term beginning Nov. 1. The Review Panel, which operates independent of NCMB, will accept applications through July 2.
Applicants are needed for two physician seats, one seat reserved for a nurse practitioner and one seat reserved for a physician assistant. Three of the four available seats are currently occupied by clinicians who are eligible for reappointment. In accordance with state law, however, each of these current Board Members must submit an application and go through the competitive nomination process. The Review Panel must nominate two candidates for each available seat on the Board for consideration by the Governor, who makes final decisions about appointments.
The Review Panel will consider only clinicians who hold active, unrestricted NC professional licenses, and have practiced in the state for at least five years. Applicants must currently be practicing clinical medicine at least 20 hours per week and plan to continue at least that level of practice for the duration of their service on the Medical Board. In addition, applicants must have no history of disciplinary action (in any jurisdiction) within the past 10 years. The Review Panel will interview all qualified applicants in Chapel Hill on Saturday, Aug. 25.
