Clinicians urged to watch for acute onset flaccid limb weakness

NC Division of Public Health (NCDPH) is asking clinicians in the state to be alert to signs of acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) among all age groups, and to report patients with acute onset of flaccid limb weakness.

As of November 2, 2018, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed 80 cases of AFM in 25 states. Two cases have been confirmed in North Carolina during 2018. The specific causes of the reported cases are still under investigation.
