NC DHHS: community transmission of COVID-19 confirmed

COVID-19 is spreading person-to-person in the community, Gov. Roy Cooper has announced. During a news conference on Thursday, Gov. Cooper said that a case has been confirmed in a Wilson County patient who had not traveled out of state or been exposed to a known case of COVID-19. The NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) warned that community transmission was likely already underway in a memo released on Wednesday.

NC DHHS urges medical practices and health care facilities to review current their response protocols and consider whether adjustments are needed. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published this guidance on preparing for community-transmission of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Patients should continue to practice social distancing and good hygiene.
