On this episode of the Remembering Hurricane Helene series, we meet PA Joshua Newton, who owns his own primary care practice in Spruce Pine, NC. Post-Helene, it took three days just to cut out to the end of his street. After he saw the devastation in his community, he did what made the most sense to him at the time. With patients unable to get to him, he hopped on a four-wheeler and rode out to find them.

Jean Fisher Brinkley

Jean Fisher Brinkley is NCMB’s Communications Director, a role that involves developing and overseeing production of communications materials and strategies needed to enhance public and professional awareness and understanding of the Board and its mission. She joined NCMB in 2008, after an 11-year career in newspaper journalism, most of it dedicated to reporting on medicine, health policy and the business aspects of health care.

Brinkley earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Mills College in Oakland, CA, and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. She lives in Raleigh with her husband and two daughters.

Joshua Newton, PA-C is the owner of The Clinic of Joshua Newton, PA-C located in Spruce Pine, NC. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Bachelors of Engineering - Mechanical Engineering from UNC-Charlotte. He received a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from Wake Forest and had practiced in a variety of settings before opening his own clinic. His clinic is the culmination of his dream to build something that will leave an indelible mark of love and support upon his community.
