Unless specifically exempted by rule, physicians must earn 60 Category 1 CME hours over a three year period. Effective July 1, 2017, physicians who prescribe controlled substances must ensure that three of the total hours earned during each three year CME cycle cover controlled substance prescribing. This requirement applies to all physicians who prescribe controlled substances, including those who are exempt from the general CME requirement.
