Retired but keeping your license?

Any physician who maintains an active North Carolina Medical Board license must earn 60 hours of Category 1 CME every three years, regardless of whether they are engaged in the active practice of medicine or if they are a PA, 50 hours of CME every two years. This includes anyone with an active retired volunteer license.
NCMB routinely conducts random audits to verify compliance with CME requirements and has noted multiple instances of retired volunteer licensees failing to stay current with CME. If you choose to retain an active NCMB license when you cease clinical practice, please continue to complete CME and save your records so you will be able to prove you are in compliance, if needed.
