Stay safe in summer heat with guidance from NC DHHS

As North Carolina continues to experience scorching summer temperatures, the North Carolina Department of Human Services (NC DHHS) is highlighting ways to avoid potential heat-related illnesses. According to NC DHHS, four key ways to stay safe in the hot weather are:

• Stay hydrated – Drink lots of water during the day.
• Limit time outside – Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day, usually between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
• Find cool places – If your home does not have AC, consider going to a public building to cool off.
• Stay informed – NC DHHS sends out heat health alerts when temperatures are climbing dangerously high. You can sign up for these alerts here.

NC DHHS has also released a guide to help individuals recognize the signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses and what to do if you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms.
