Health systems across the country are sounding the alarm about a phishing scam that attempts to fool patients into believing they are claiming an offer from the patient portal MyChart, operated by Epic.  Scammers leverage MyChart’s recognizable name and logo to target and trick patients into providing personal information. Fraudulent messages can come as emails, text messages and phone calls.

Recent phishing attempts usually invite recipients to click a link to claim an offer, leading them to a page that prompts them to provide personal information. Epic has cautioned users to be skeptical of free offers sent via email and to check the sender and web address when they receive an email.
